Brown eyes can’t be complimented I see,
as common as earth,
but that’s okay,
you needn’t know how they illuminate, glowing with auburn shades of life in the sunshine
–Although
what if I, could prove my human-ness
that I, too, can have pretty eyes,
pretty eyes in the light;
just not
without scolding them by the sun.
Just know,
that as you construct these walls between us, urban landscapes sprawling over naked earth,
earth becomes more scarce,
celebrated in tufts between pavement slabs,
and just like that, we shall rise in little numbers
and surface with our wildflowers,
and only then will your eyes whisper compliments, your mind will never permit your lips to say
